RE: ADN Evaluation

Hello, I'm Becky and I have just completed my eval. (the one with earned college credits already) It is simple, you just type the name of the classes you took and the # of credits and your grade. It is a form that is really simple. They evaluated mine within hrs. I'm having a problem purchasing more than one class for the 25% discount. Any Suggestions? Good Luck...

RE: Looking for Study Partner for Sociology

Hi, Bob

Thanks for replying. I cant take the Clep until May. The testing facility that is nearest me , is switching to the computers and wont be ready until then. So I'm taking my time on this course. But I would like to keep in touch on the subject.

RE: Looking for Study Partner for Sociology

Enews, sounds great. Ive taken Clep exams in the past, the U of Greatfalls,Mt. is set up with the new computer system and it's very good. It gives you your score after you complete the test so you know if you passed or not. Im shooting for the end of April for my test(I try to spend about 8weeks on each subject). The way I study for the exam, is that I read the complete book twice and complete the end of chapter questions both times. I'm trying for my BS of General Business Degree. Sociology is an elective subject for me. Let me know when you want to start and I'll send you my e-mail address. Bob.

Newbie taking Lifespan

Quick question.....on the assigment area, when I reach the end of it, what happens? Do I see all the questions and answers I have printed out? Do they tell me if I was stupid enough to miss any, what? Or does it just say the end and I go on to the practice test?

RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

how long did it take you to get through the questions...I just started and I am on question 25. Are you retaining everything?
I don't know the answer to your question...I'm just writing it in a copy book so I dont have to sit in front of the computer the whole time.

RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

I have went throught all the questions and just saved each question blank so I could print out all the questions at once..... so I also don't have to set in front of the computer all day. Plus I need something in hand to study with all the time! I am through about question 250 at this time... I started on the 14th of March. When you reach the end, you just reach the end. Answer the questions and then I guess take the practice exams until you are comfortable. You can email me @ melkel@tecifo.com if you have any other questions. By the way, I am a NR-Paramedic... What are you?

bowieebling posted on 4/1/2002 1:22:54 PMReply
RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

I am an RRT. What is a NR?
I started on March 27th, but have been down and out with a stomach virus for the past 5 days, so I haven't got much done much, I'm only on question 30.

RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

I guess I should have put NREMT. Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician. At the Paramedic level. So how long have you been Respiratory Therapist?

bowieebling posted on 4/3/2002 9:40:30 AMReply
RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

I graduated in '89. I like the work, it's interesting. and I see what the nurses do....so I'm still not sure that even if i do go all the way through this program, that I'll necessarily go and work as an RN...does that sound strange?
Let's put it this way, I don't want it bad enough to go through a traditional school and deal with rearranging my work schedule to make it happen. I just figured that this home study option won't make my life chaotic...I can do it in my spare time and at my own pace, and then I always have the option to change jobs if I want. How long have u been an EMT?

kmaytubby38701 posted on 4/3/2002 11:44:17 AMReply
RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

I feel the same way about this program. I would like to have a RN degree for the future. I see big money in the near future (5yrs). I also want something to fall back on when my body won't let me haul people out of the ditches and other inconspicuous places. I have been in the Fire/EMS field for almost 8 years now with 3.5 at the Paramedic level.
I only have 9 classes to take to obtain my RN... so here goes... I plan on finishing in approximately a year. Well, good luck with this class... maybe we can help each other through it

RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

there's BIG money to be had right now! At my hospital they are offering a $35 bonus/hour for any hours worked over your normal, with a 4 week committment (ex.if you're bugeted for 48 hrs /two weeks and just want to pick up an extra shift a week, you have to promise them it for 4 weeks, and you will get your base plus that $35 an hour extra- for all the extra shifts you promise them). And belive it or not we are still short staffed, we use agency, traveling, an awesome weekend program, that bonus package, and our normal budgeted people....and we're still short staffed! it's unbelievable! I have 10 classes to take, lifespan, microbiology, ethics, and the 7 nursing classes. Hopefully we can help each other. what state r u from? sheila

kmaytubby38701 posted on 4/8/2002 8:31:50 AMReply
RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

I know that there is big money out there right now, but I was thinking that it will probably be about 50 dollars an hour eventually. The money is about the same out here in Mississippi. And we are having the same problems and also hiring contract nurses. So what state are you from? As far as the classes I have to take ..... the 7 nursing classes, Lifespan, Micro. and A&P.; I don't think A&P; will take me a month, I have had it 2 times, but once 10 years ago and the other class was for EMS. I think the EMS class was more involved than most A&P; classes, but I guess more specific to EMS.

RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

Well, I just started on the 30th but I have had major computer problems where my computer keeps locking up when I am online. So, I stopped for a while. Hopefully it will work now and start again. I am only on question 22. I have been an L.V.N. for about 10 years now. Right now I am working post partum, I have pedi and transitional care experience though. I want the money that comes with an R.N. At my hospital, if you are per diem and an R.N. you can make 32.00/hr. Right now as an L.V.N. I am making 18.00/hr which I think is good for an L.V.N. I want more flexiblility for when I get older though. Plus if anything in the future were to happen I could take care of my family better with my R.N. I just want to not waste my time this year since I paid the 499.00 for a year. I need 8 classes.

RE: Newbie taking Lifespan

I'm from Pennsylvania. Close to the Maryland and delaware borders. My sister and best friend are Rn's at my hospital, they're really rakeing in the extra money for the extra shifts they are picking up($64-$69/hour). I guess the hospital figures that's not as much as they would be paying for agency , so they pay it. Why do u have to take A&P; over if you've already had it twice??? Did Excelsior tell you the credits were too old???? I took my A&P; 13+ years ago for Respiratory. I don't want to take it over if I don't have to. Sheila

Bob - saw your note and have not taken any courses to date this way. When you said that you read the book twice - I nearly flipped! What size book are we talking about - I am thinking it is a large text such as I am used when attending classes in person. Please share any information regarding this as I am trying to make a decision as to whether or not I should explore this avenue. Thanks so much. ellenp021@aol.com

Yesterday I worked through to number 74 on my Lifespan course. Today I log in and it's back at number 46! What's with that? Has that ever happened to anyone? It wasn't just showing questions that I skipped either, do I really have to continue clicking next until I get up to where I really am???

OMG...I am so overwhelmed!

Just ordered the ethics course today and in reading all of these messages, it sounds like it is going to be awful. I have been taking my nursing courses through Moore Education, and failed my Humanities Clep Exam with a 47 (I needed a 50 to pass) so am taking the ethics course here to get my humanities credit. Anyone with any helpful info, I will gladly accept it.

RE: Help! A/P test!

Yes, you do need to take the sample exam, I took it 3 times until I made 90%. Then I reviewed all the right and wrong answers with what I had highlighted in the text from the assignments. I did all this in just 6 weeks and took the exam yesterday (16th) and made a B! Tough exam, good luck!
