  • Giving Back to Those Who Gave the Most - Homes 4 Wounded Heroes

The Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF) is a non-profit organization that provides support for our nation’s combat wounded veterans who are transitioning out of the military. This is a fragile time for veterans where many fall through the cracks. To ease in their transition, MWSF has several programs to benefit the heroes, one of which is Homes4WoundedHeroes (H4WH). Through H4WH, they donate 100% mortgage free homes to wounded heroes and their families. These homes are all fully renovated, adapted for the hero’s injuries, in low-crime areas and in quality school districts.

What sets their program apart from other home donation programs is that their Foundation retains the deed of the home for the first 3 years. During this period, they provide 3 years of mentoring for the family. Each recipient is given a family and financial mentor to provide them guidance to develop the skills necessary to become happy and successful homeowners.

Their Mentor serves as their MWSF primary point of contact. They are there to help organize them for their move, ensure they get settled into their new home, and will continue to stay in regular contact with the family to ensure everything with them, and their home, is going smoothly. Once settled into the home, their Mentor guides them through a structured financial mentoring program; including monthly sessions to review budgeting, savings and debt repayment. The absence of a mortgage is a wonderful gift and MWSF wants to help families make the most of this opportunity! The goal of this program is to get families out of debt, pay off any loans they owe on, and even save for their future. This will provide families with a stable environment where they may not only focus on their recovery, but also build the foundation for a successful future for their entire family.

This amazing program would not be possible without generous donors. In most cases, the properties, along with the rehab services, are donated to the Foundation by major Financial Institutions. Help is needed with the cost associated with placing a family in the home and supporting them through their 3-year Mentoring Program. For $20,000, an individual or a business can be the official sponsor of a home and may be present at their home presentation. The sponsorship funds will support the costs associated with processing a family into the house and will support the cost of the 3-year Mentoring Program, which is vital to the family’s long term success. H4WH gives them a house. Your Sponsorship makes it a HOME! Donations in smaller amounts are welcome as well. To support MWSF and all their programs, please visit MilitaryWarriors.org/Donate.

  • Military Exclusive Opportunity for Tuition & College Credit Savings

Until recently, tuition assistance has been available to military personnel since the late 1940’s.  However, due to recent budget cuts, military branches have been forced to suspend their tuition assistance programs.  “These cuts will have an impact on military families.  The National Education Alliance is subsidizing the cost of the in-depth study materials from iStudySmart.com to help out during the suspension of tuition assistance.  This will allow military personnel to continue to prepare for and pass exams to complete college credit.  Our goal is to support the military during this time,” said National Education Alliance President, Shara Wright.  The courses are normally $225 each but with the funds provided by the Alliance, military personnel can have online access to the iStudySmart.com traditional courses for $49.95 per month per course with the exclusive military discount on the SmartSubscription.  There is no limit to the number of courses which may be purchased in this manner.  iStudySmart.com’s test preparation materials are a flexible alternative to help military personnel complete college credit toward degree completion or for work related advancement.

    • Transferable: over 3,800 colleges accept credit by exam
    • Affordable: one course per month for only $49.95 – for military personnel
    • Portable: work at your pace – anywhere in the world

  • Looking for continued education resources, but don’t know where to start?

With so many options available, choosing where to begin can be a tough decision. Attending a traditional college or university isn’t always the best option. One has to consider many factors before deciding which education path to start on.

Three major qualifiers to consider are time, cost, and quality

    Time:
An average Associate’s Degree will require about 60 credit hours to complete. One semester-long class at a traditional college will typically earn a student 3 credit hours. At the rate of 5 classes per semester, students can expect to earn an Associate’s Degree in 2 years. Ask yourself, “Do I have time to take 5 classes a semester?” Your work, life, and family schedules will vary, there are options for you to study at your own pace, as fast or slow as you need. If you want to complete college credit on your time, there are smarter and more flexible options available. Time, however, is not the only deciding factor. The cost of attendance should be considered in your decision as well.

    Cost:
According to the College Board, “tuition and fees at public two-year colleges average $2,963.” Taking 5 classes per semester and completing an Associate’s Degree at a two-year college would cost about $6,000 in tuition for 2 years. If this doesn’t fit into your budget, and you’d like a more affordable way to earn your Associate Degree, another option may be right for you.

    Consider this:
Over 3800 colleges and universities allow you to earn part of your degree by "testing out" with credit by examination. What does that mean? You can study traditional course material on your own time, and take one standardized exam when you’re ready. When you pass the exam, you complete the college credit for that course. Online study can save you time, with courses that can be completed on your schedule and rate of study. Online study can also save on college costs, with iStudySmart.com’s 2-year SmartClub membership, it can cost up to 80% less on tuition than a traditional 2-year college. Never thought about online study before? Consider, “Colleges saw a 17 percent increase in online enrollment, with more than one in four students taking at least one online course” according to a study by the Sloan Consortium.

    Quality assured:

The U.S. Department of Defense established the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education (DANTES) Support Subject Standardized Test, known today as DSST, to allow credit-by-examination tests to be taken by students to prove a proficiency in subjects traditionally taught at colleges or universities.

    • •  iStudySmart.com is the only company officially endorsed by DSST
    • •  iStudySmart.com has completed their Central Contractor Registration and is
registered to accept Government and Federal education contracts
    • •  iStudySmart.com is now a Verified Vendor with the U.S. Federal Contract Registration

iStudySmart.com offers courses in over 60 subjects in Business, Nursing, Science, Social Studies, and Humanities. Anxious about how well you’ll perform in online study? According to a report from the NY Times, “On average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face-to-face instruction.” If that isn’t enough, iStudySmart.com even guarantees* your success. Complete college credit the smarter way and see what iStudySmart.com can do for you.

  • Get The Credit You Deserve. Find out how with the National Education Alliance Counseling Center!

As a military service member, you’ve already completed some college credits that can be applied to a degree.  Credits can come from basic combat training, on-the-job training, and advanced training.

The credits you have already earned may include both traditional college credit and nationally-recognized alternatives that colleges across the nation consider in transfer for credit.

The National Education Alliance has recently opened its College Counseling Center which can help you determine what colleges and universities will accept your completed college credits. The Counseling Center allows you to access a database of over 300 colleges and universities with one application. The database searches the best potential college/university that fits your needs for your chosen degree.

What’s more: the Counseling Center will provide transcript evaluations for the top three schools that are most cost effective and award the most previously completed credits. This feature helps you save time and money and minimizes the loss of credits when transferring.

The Counseling Center includes a four step process to support your current plan of action and to help guide you through completion of your degree.

As an extra perk, the National Education Alliance is waiving its $95 membership fee in honor of the Counseling Center’s opening.* Not only will you have access to the Counseling Center at a discounted price but you will also have access to all of the products/services offered by the National Education Alliance.

  • Military Warriors Support Foundation: Honoring and Assisting Returning Disabled American Soldiers

On that fateful day of September 11th, 2001, many heroes emerged. Police, fire fighters and civilians, came together and began our fight against terrorism. Since that day, our military has carried on the fight for us overseas. Countless brave men and women have been injured, or made the ultimate sacrifice, while defending our freedom. Many Americans have shown their generosity in caring for these heroes. Some give their time as volunteers, some give their financial support. Several organizations have been created to assist these veterans.  One such organization is the Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF).

MWSF, founded by Lt. Gen Leroy Sisco, USA (Ret), provides assistance to injured veterans during their transition from military to civilian life. So far in 2010, through the Homes4WoundedWarriors Program, six mortgage-free homes have been awarded to wounded warriors and their families. In addition, through the CEOs4Heroes Program, in two short months, over 40 veterans have received job offers in career-potential positions.

MWSF anticipates awarding many more homes to our Wounded Warriors and looks to provide countless more employment opportunities to our Heroes, and you can help! Simply text the word HERO to 46786 and follow the directions to select your personal level of donation! It's as easy as that! If your company is interested in providing veterans with quality jobs, please e-mail CEOs4Heroes@MilitaryWarriors.org.

One company that has already stood up for our Heroes is Lucchese, Inc., with their CEO, Paul LaVoie. LaVoie has made it his goal to rally fellow companies to come together to raise $1,000,000. “These heroes have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Let's join together in welcoming them home and supporting them in their time of need” says LaVoie. The process to donate a home costs MWSF $10,000. “Reaching $1,000,000 in donations will change the lives of 75 - 100 families”, says Casey Kinser, MWSF Programs Director. LaVoie also serves as the “corporate leader” of the CEOs4Heroes (C4H) program. “The vision of this program is to establish a positive working relationship with our partner companies that are interested in hiring our Veterans. We hope to add new corporate partners that recognize the positive attributes these individuals can bring to their place of employment”, says C4H Program Coordinator, Andrea Dellinger.

In addition to the Military Warriors Support Foundation’s homes and employment programs, they also offer education assistance as well as provide recreational opportunities for the Warriors and their families. For more information on all of MWSF’s programs, or to see how you can get involved, visit their website at www.MilitaryWarriors.org.

“Although appreciated, supporting our troops is more than a bumper sticker.  As much as moral support, our troops need the type of practical assistance the Military Warriors Support Foundation will provide.”

    -          Ken Eakes, MWSF Executive Director
